we are not entirely sure. something very bad, very sudden, and very unexpected. suffice it to say that they are no longer with us, and details really are not pleasant. particularly considering your fondness for the species.
.... Did you feed them to the snake? Or was it just a sudden illness?
oh goodness, no we didn't feed them to the snake! They were pets, albeit accidental ones. Sudden rather violent illness. As in went to bed on thursday and they both seemed fine. looked in on them friday round abouts noon and rose was already dead.
*hugs* I'm very sorry. Rats are very good at hiding their illnesses. :S Wish I could help.
